Kano Screens 147 More Couples for Upcoming Mass Wedding

The Kano State Agency for the Control of Aids has begun pre-marital health screening for an additional 147 prospective couples ahead of the state government’s upcoming mass wedding.

Information Officer Usman Datti said the exercise is aimed at providing medical evaluations and consultations to the couples, as well as ensuring their medical fitness and preventing the spread of diseases that could be transmitted through marriage.

The screening focuses on HIV testing, Hepatitis B and C screening, Sickle Cell Genotype testing, evaluation for venereal diseases, and pregnancy testing.

Director-General Dr. Usman Bashir urged the prospective couples to take the exercise seriously, noting that the state government has provided adequate facilities and medical personnel to ensure its smooth conduct.

This is the latest in a series of pre-marital health screenings conducted by the Kano government for couples participating in its mass wedding program.

In total, the government has sponsored and officiated the mass wedding of 1,800 couples in recent months.
