Nigerian Air Force Helicopter Crashes in Port Harcourt

A Nigerian Air Force helicopter crashed in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, this morning at approximately 7:45 AM. The helicopter, an MI-35P, was on a mission to combat oil thieves in Rivers State when it crashed shortly after takeoff from the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt.

All five crew members on board the helicopter survived the crash with minor injuries and are currently being treated at the NAF Medical Centre in Port Harcourt. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has traveled to Port Harcourt to assess the situation, meet with the crew members, and provide further instructions.

In a statement, the Nigerian Air Force expressed its gratitude that the crew members survived the crash and praised them for their bravery and service.

The statement also acknowledged the dangers associated with military aviation and the risks that NAF pilots and technicians face in their efforts to protect the nation and deter criminal activity.
