Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has led other state dignitaries in honour of fallen heroes and laying of wreath in commemoration of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Yobe.
The event, which marked the climax of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund, was attended by several government officials, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, members of the state branch of the Nigeria Legion and family members of the fallen heroes.
Speaking shortly after the event, Buni paid glowing tribute to the fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in the fight against insurgency in the north east.
He noted that the peaceful conduct of the commemoration without any hindrance, signified that peace has returned to Yobe.
The governor, however, charged the troops to show more patriotism and nationalism to sustain the peace currently enjoyed in the state.
Highlights of the event include the release of white pigeons to signify peace across the state and the nation in general.
Special prayers were also offered by both Christian and Muslim military clerics for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes and for the peace of Yobe state and the nation in general.
