Uche Friday, Damaturu.

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has revealed his government’s policy to ensure the even distribution of empowerment programs for the economic development of the state.

He made the revelation on Monday during the flagging off of the Yobe East Senatorial campaign rally, which took place at the 27th August stadium in Damaturu.

The senatorial bye-election was occasioned by the appointment of former Senator Ibrahim Geidan as the Minister of Police Affairs by President Ahmed Tinubu.

He stated that despite the economic difficulties occasioned by the global economic crisis and the effects of the Boko Haram insurgency in the state, his administration would continue to assist individuals to be self-reliant.

He assured that just as youths with degree certificates, over 2,600 of them, were given employment by the government, such assistance would now be extended to people in other sectors such as agriculture and businesses.

“In like manner, we plan to take 15 farmers and 15 businessmen and women and empower them so that they can become self-reliant. We will take 15 farmers from each of our 178 wards, and you will see the assistance we will render to them so that they can become self-reliant.

“In the same way, we’ll take 15 businessmen and women and give them financial assistance, as much as the government can, for them to stand on their own feet,” the governor stated.

This program, the governor said, is meant to ensure progress and economic growth for the people in particular and the state in general.

“This is the best way to improve the economy and the economic development of a state that has suffered setbacks due to, especially, the Boko Haram insurgency that lasted for 10 years in the state.”

“This is our plan, and, by the will of God Almighty, we will reach out to our people, men and women, but especially our youths,” the governor further stated.

He, however, called on the people to turn out en masse for the election to ensure victory for the party in the upcoming bye-election.

Musa Mustapha, who won the APC primary election for Zone A, will be replacing Ibrahim Geidam.
