Army celebrate successes at WASA 2023: Commander Saraso Appreciates Troops and Allies

Major General MLD Saraso, Commander of Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai, led troops and guests in a vibrant celebration at the 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) held on February 9th, 2024, in Damaturu.

WASA, an annual tradition, aims to strengthen bonds between officers, soldiers, families, and friends through cultural displays, music, and regimental activities. It marks the end of a busy training and operation year and welcomes the new one.

Saraso said “This event creates an atmosphere for our troops to unwind, socialize, and appreciate their efforts in securing our area of responsibility.”

He specifically commended his operational team and acknowledged the vital roles of the Yobe State Peace and Vigilante Group and Hunters Group.

The Commander emphasized his commitment to upholding the Command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

“To Transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a Joint environment,” he said.

He expressed gratitude for the support received from the Chief of Army Staff, Theatre Commander, and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

The General further acknowledged the crucial contributions of security partners like the NPF, DSS, NSCDC, and media outlets. He urged them to continue sharing the positive developments of their operations and denying platforms to adversaries.

Our Correspondent reports that the event featured cultural performances, musical displays, and other activities, fostering camaraderie and celebrating the achievements of Sector 2 troops.

The message was clear: despite the ongoing challenges, the Nigerian Army remains committed to its duty and appreciates the support of the community and its partners.

Speaking, Gov Mai Mala thanked the Commander Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, Maj Gen MLD Saraso and the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja for their exemplary leadership in tackling the various security challenges confronting the Nation and Yobe State in particular.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, Buni also appreciated the troops of Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai and other security agencies for their sacrifices, making the state safe and peaceful.

Buni drew the attention of the military to intensify surveillance and clearance operations in Tarmuwa, Yunusari, Geidam and Gujba Local Government Areas bordering Borno state.

“All gaps in deployment should be filled to avoid providing opportunities to the insurgents to infiltrate the border communities,” he advised.
