YOSIEC Postpones Local Government Elections

The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) has announced the postponement of the local government elections from May 25 to June 8, citing logistics issues and other reasons that may impede a seamless, free, and fair election.

Dr. Mamman Mohammed, the Chairman of YSIEC, made the announcement on Wednesday while addressing newsmen in Damaturu.

He explained that the original date of May 25 was no longer realistic, and the commission had to adjust the date to ensure a successful election.

The new date for the local government council election is now June 8, 2024, two weeks after the initial date.

Dr. Mohammed expressed his gratitude to Governor Mai Mala Buni for his consistent support of the commission’s endeavors and his exemplary leadership, which embodies the principles of good governance.

He also extended his sincere appreciation to the press, security personnel, representatives of all political parties, and electoral staff for their understanding and support.

The postponement is aimed at ensuring a hitch-free and credible election, and the commission is working to address all necessary logistics and issues to achieve this goal.
