Mohammed Isa, an aspirant for National Disabled Leader at the upcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) convention, has promised to ensure that political appointments are reserved for People Living With Disabilities (PLWD), if elected.

Isa, the former APC North-East Disabled Leader, made this known in an interview inreporters in Damaturu on Monday.

According to him, reserving political appointments for PLWD will harness their innate political abilities and leadership prowess in line with the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.

He said he would mobilize resources to build the capacity of state’s and local government’s PLWD leaders to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

“ We will develop a four-year APC disabilities mainstreaming framework to properly guide the party in day to day operations and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

“ We will also engage the party structure at all levels to encourage persons with disabilities to participate in political activities, through subsidizing/wavering of expression of interest and nomination form.

“ There will also be engagement of the party at all levels to ensure unhindered access to all infrastructure ( physical or otherwise) to persons with disabilities,” the aspirant said.

Isa, also the pioneer Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Yobe Chapter, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Act and subsequent establishment of National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

“ I am optimistic that the commission will end the age-long neglect, stigmatisation, discrimination, deprivation and stereotypes experienced by persons with disabilities in the country,” he said.

The aspirant pledged to use his national and international experience to consolidate on the gains recorded by the present administration in improving the lives of PLWD
