Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, on Thursday, flagged off construction of 30 kilometer Bulanguwa – Kumaganam and 10 kilometer Chumbusko – Tagali roads in the state.
At the commissioning of one of the project at Nguru, Gov. Buni said he was delighted to flagged-off the construction of the 30-kilometer Bulanguwa-Kumaganam asphalt road and to Commission the completed Nguru township roads.
According to him, the two projects fitted into his administration broader objective of transforming the state and improving the wellbeing of the people.
“As you may recall, the 30 kilometer Trans-Saharan road project was initiated to address the challenging unmotorable roads in the desert-prone Northern part of the State.
It should be noted that the idea of linking Bulanguwa to Kumaganam forms part of the larger Trans-Saharan road.
“The project is designed to align a number of communities that share common markets with concentration of cash crops such as cowpea and sesame seeds.”, he said.
Buni also said the Bulanguwa-Kumaganam 30-kilometer asphalt road, is awarded to Mother Cat Construction Company Nigeria Limited, at a total contract sum of N6.9 billion with a completion period of 15 months.
Buni expressed optimism that the project would stimulate local and international trade with the border communities in Niger Republic.
“Similarly, we are taking advantage of our presence here in Nguru to commission the 3.2-kilometer township asphalted road and 6.4-kilometer drainages in Nguru town.
“The project was awarded to Mother Cat Construction Nigeria Limited at a total contract sum of N863.9 million.
Gov. Buni also flagged off the construction of the 10-kilometer road linking Chumbusko and Tagali communities in Gashua local government area.
He said the N2.1 billion project was awarded to Grey Multiple Investment limited and would be completed within 12 months.
The governor explained that the project would facilitate easy movement of goods and services, enhance commerce and trade, and create more employment opportunities for the benefitting communities and others.
While Buni called on the Ministry of Works to supervise the project with eagle eyes, he enjoined the contractors to stick to the terms of agreement of the contract. (inreporters.ng)
