Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Thursday signed the N163.9 billion 2022 Appropriation and Finance Bill into Law.
Speaking at the occasion in Damaturu, Buni commended the state House of Assembly for giving accelerated passage to the budget estimate he presented to the state House of Assembly on Nov. 11.
He, however, noted that the House slashed the total sum of the budget from over N164 billion to N163.9 billion.
The governor said with the adjustment, the capital expenditure was now N90.3 billion, while the recurrent expenditure stood at N73.7 billion.
Buni said the budget tagged : “Budget of continuity empowerment and accelerated development” would focus on completing old projects, creating employment, infrastructure development and revitalisation of agriculture and education.
He also commended the House for codification of Yobe State Revenue Laws, which paved way for the establishment of a single account for effective revenue generation.
The governor congratulated the House for “ two consecutive years of record-breaking rating of the state by BudgIT, an independent budget monitoring and implementation organization”.
“ Yobe is rated as second best state in capital budget expenditure, which promotes service delivery in education, healthcare, trade, commerce, road construction, housing, among others.
“ I dedicate these great achievements to the good people of Yobe, and assure you of our commitment to build on this feat to provide more dividends of democracy to our people,” Buni said.
In his remarks, the Speaker of House, Alhaji Lawan Mirwa, commended Buni for prudent management of resources and his administration’s adherence to due process in award of contracts and their execution.
He pledged the House’s total support and co-operation to education revitalisation programme recently initiated by the state government.
