Damaturu, May 27, 2023 (NAN) North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated instructional materials to junior and senior secondary schools and orphanages in Yobe.

The Commission’s State Coordinator, Mr Ali Abbas stated this at the inauguration of the distribution on Saturday in Damaturu.

Abbas said the gesture was to suppot and complement state government’s effort in revitalising education sector after decade long destruction by Boko Haram insurgency.

He said the total exercise books donated were 305, 000 across 152 junior secondary schools, 16 senior secondary schools, 19 science and technical colleges and 15 orphanages and private schools.

Other materials according to him include 850 white boards, 1,200 textbooks per six subjects including English language, Mathematics and sciences.

“The commission is also intervening in construction of classrooms across the 17 local government areas of the state.

“As I speak to you now, every local government in the state has received a project of construction of one block of 3-classrooms each.

“The first and the second phase of the construction has been completed. Now, the third phase is ongoing,” the Coordinator added.

Appreciating the gesture, Mr Hamidu Alhaji, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education commended federal government for establishing NEDC.

“A lot of structures, especially that of education had been vandalised by boko Haram insurgence.

“The coming of NEDC is a blessing because of their numerous interventions.

“ Therefore, I commended the commission for their targeted interventions especially where there are needs,” he said.
