Save the Children International (SCI) has advocated the importance of children’s rights to education in Yobe state.
Mrs. Karima Idris, the SCI Advocacy and Campaign Coordinator, explained the importance of children’s rights to education on Monday in Damaturu, to commemorate with ‘Happy Universal Children’s Day 2021’.
Karima said every child, including those living disabilities, had the right to education, because it had the power to change lives.
She said education was a powerful tool that break the cycle of poverty; supporting child survival, growth, development, well-being and it close the gap of social inequality.
Karima further stressed that girls’ education was particularly impactful for future generations.
She added that the day was observed across the globe to raise public awareness and educate people about children’s fundamental rights, such as the right to education, and the importance of providing them with a pleasant environment in which they can grow into better human beings.
In his remarks, Ishaku Bature Usaini, the SCI Safety and Security Coordinator, who represented the Field Manager had explained what Happy Universal Children’s Day meant.
He said World Children’s Day was launched as Universal Children’s Day in the year 1954 and ever since the day promotes international unity for children’s welfare.
World Children’s Day according to him is commemorated every year on November 20 with an aim to increase the well-being of children worldwide.
