Trained youths laud NEDC for for waste mgt, recycling skills
The youths trained by North-East Development Commission (NEDC) on efficient waste management practice and recycling in Yobe, commended the commission for the training on Friday in Damaturu.
It recalls that (NEDC), in collaboration with Yobe state government, had trained 150 scavengers on efficient waste management practice and recycling in the state.
Some of the participants made the commendation in separate interviews with our reporter shortly after receiving stipends and certificates of attendance for the five-day workshop.
Mr Bana Bukar, one of the participants thanked the commission for the initiative. He described it as first of its kind.
“As far as I know, never ever someone think of improving this business. Therefore now that this commission organised the training, we are so happy. We really appreciate. Because feel important in the society.”, he said.
Malam Sani Ibrahim, another participant, said the training is timely and would motivate other youths, who under rate the business to also join them.
Ali Zanna, another participant aslo appreciated the gesture and promised to apply the skills he acquired in the training into use.
“Now we have learnt how to apply important hygiene tips while conducting our business.
”More importantly, the commission would create direct links between us and companies, eliminating third parties in our transactions.”, he said.
In his closing remarks, Alhaji. Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director of the commission enjoined the participants to utilise the skills acquired and enjoined them to step down the training to others, who were not opportune to attend.
Alkali represented by Assoc. Prof. Ali Abbas, the NEDC Focal Person in Yobe state, said the commission would continue to implement federal government’s programs and initiatives for the development of the state and region.
