Save the Children International (SCI), an International Non Governmental Organisation has celebrated and appreciated members of the humanitarian communities who sacrifice their time, comfort and lives to help humanity in Yobe state.
Mr Mark Umaru, the SCI Field Manager, Yobe state said the day was set side to celebrate and honour individuals who indulge in humanitarian work.
He said the World Humanitarian Day 2022 with theme ‘It takes a village’, was also marked to celebrate the contribution of humanitarian volunteers who work relentessly for the cause of humanity.
He said humanitarian aid workers provided life-saving assistance to suffering people all over the world.
“Here with us today, we have the humanitarian communities which consist of International Oeganisatios, UN agencies, National NGOs, Civil Society Oeganisatios, government officials among others.”, he explained.
Mr Cleobas James, the SCI Education Coordinator Yobe state, said the day pays tribute to the thousands of humanitarian workers who gave their lives and suffered injuries in the course of their work.
In her comments Miss Hadiza Usman Yusuf, the SCI Livelyhood Coordinator, Yobe state said the point of humanitarian aid was to alleviate people’s suffering and maintain human dignity.
She said there might be plenty of options for one to do just that close to home.
“Try volunteering at a homeless shelter, a nursing home, a hospital or a place that serves underprivileged children around you.”, she advised.
