Yobe Gov commences inauguration of 138 rehabilitated, upgraded PHCs

Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has commenced inauguration of 138 rehabilitated and upgraded Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) out of proposed 178 across all political wards in the state.

Buni stated at the occasion on Tuesday in Damaturu that gesture was necessary due to mass destruction of public structures including Health facilities by the Boko Haram insurgency.

“I am glad to inform this gathering that we have successfully completed the construction, rehabilitation and upgrading of 138 Primary Healthcare centers out of the proposed 178 centers for each political ward.

“We are here today to officially commission the Gwange Primary Healthcare Centre.

“This, will no doubt improve the health status of our citizens, particularly women and children, and to further strengthen the services provided in these facilities.”, he said.

Buni also said his administration had upgraded eight PHCs in Bara, Buni Gari, Babbangida, Yunusari, Yusufari, Jaji-Maji, Machina, and Asibitin Malam baba in Nguru to General Hospitals.

Other projects according to him include four additional specialist hospitals in Buni Yadi, Gashua, Geidam, and Potiskum to improve access to secondary and tertiary healthcare services across the state among others.

The governor reiterated that his administration remained committed towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and other health-related sustainable development goals.

While he commanded traditional, religious leaders and the LGA Chairmen, Buni enjoined them sustain and redouble their efforts to increase demand and utilisation of PHC services in their respective communities.

He also thanked other development partners working with the State Primary Health Care Management Board and State Ministry for Health for their support and technical guidance.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr Muhammad Gana, the Commissioner for Health added that governor Buni had approved the employment of various cadre of health workers.

“Such as 258 Nurses, midwives, community midwives and community nurses, 194 Pharmacy technicians.

“Laboratory assistants, HMIS officers, 85 CHEWS as emergency responders among others from 2019 to date
