Yobe Ministry of Health, Nigerian Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMCN) Yobe Chapter, with technical support from Marie Stopes have trained 50 nurses and midwives on Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP).
Declaring the Workshop open, Dr Muhammad Gana, the Commissioner for Health and Human Resources, described the 5-day workshop as timely and very important.
Gana represented by Malam Mustapha Muhammad, the Head of Nursing, State Specialist Hospital Damaturu said there was need for knowledge update as science was dynamic so the nursing profession.
“Considering the fact that science is dynamic and the way in which things are changing, there is need for health workers to be updating their knowledge.”, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, the State Clinical Training Officer Marie Stopes Reproductive Choices said “MSN provides reproductive health such as family planning, pregnancy counseling and testing, clinical and data quality with priority to infection, prevention practice across health facilities.”, she said.
Ibrahim added that the participants, who were drawn from different health facilities across the state, would attend the mandatory continuing professional development programme.
She added that the objective of the workshop was to keep all professional up-to-date on the knowledge of family planning for quality service provision across the state and the country at large, which required the need for technical support from Marie Stopes International reproductive choices.
Earlier in her address, Hajiya Hadiza Sabo, the Provost, Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Coordinator Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, enjoined the participants to pay attention throughout the Workshop for maximum benefits.
