Yobe Govt supports 300 victims of Damaturu windstorm

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says it has supported about 300 victims of the recent Damaturu windstorm with medicals, cash and other gifts.

Dr Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary, SEMA disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Damaturu.

He noted that the support, was under the directive of Gov. Mai Mala Buni.

According to Goje, of the 1,190 of the registered victims, about 300 most affected, had received government support.

He stated that 90 households recieved medical and cash support, while over 200 households, recieved building materials, food and non food items.

“This support is aimed at cushioning the effect of the disaster and like we all know, no amount given them will replace thier loses.

“So, on behalf of the Yobe government, I want to call on the beneficiaries to use the items for the intended purposes,” he said.

He further expressed gratitude to the ‘Action Against Hunger (AAH)’ Yobe office, for complementing efforts of the government.

The scribe explained that the AAH had provided shelter kits, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) support.

NAN reports that on May 9, a heavy rainstorm had claimed the lives of five persons, while over 40 others, sustained various degrees of injuries, in Damaturu.
