Yobe Govt to diversify IGR sources

Yobe government emphasised need to diversify its sources of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to address over dependence on the federal allocation.

Alhaji Muhammad Gagiyo, the Commissioner Ministry for Budget and Economic Planning made the statement at the state’s 2023 ‘Budget Bilateral Discussion’ on Monday in Damaturu.

“One critical issue worthy of mentioning here is the urgent need for diversification of our internal revenue sources as over dependence on the federal allocation is no longer feasible.”, he said.

He therefore advised all revenue generating agencies in the state to capture all relevant taxes into their net as much as possible.

Gagiyo said the main objective of this budget discussion was to evaluate the submissions made by MDAs to ensure strict compliance with the budget provisions and other guidelines.

“The fundamental objective of government in preparing a budget is to ensure that resource allocations are prioritised in a manner that ensures funds are allocated to areas that are most needed.”, he added.

In his remarks, Alhaji Baba Malam-Wali, the Secretary to the State emphasised on the need to complete all ongoing projects in the state.

He said the all projects started by the present administration of Gov Mai Mala Buni must be completed in the 2023 budget.

He called on all the participants to cooperate and put their and produce a reliable and acceptable budget development of the state.
