Yobe lawmaker sponsors community devt. projects, empowers women, farmers

Alhaji Ibrahim Umar, member representing Potiskum-Nangere in the House of Representatives, has sponsored some community development projects and empowered women and youths in his constituency.

Senior Legislative Aide to the lawmaker, Alhaji Umar Salisu, made this known while addressing newsmen on Friday in Potiskum.

Salisu said that the projects sponsored by the lawmaker included rehabilitation of Potiskum-Mandagai-Duddaye road in Potiskum Local Government Area.

He said that rehabilitation of Tashan Kurege-Degubi road was ongoing, while that of Danchuwa to Garin Abba had reached 70 per cent completion, with Dakasku-Kakavijik road already completed.

Salisu further said that other projects facilitated by the lawmaker were construction of six blocks of classrooms, with furniture, at Sabon Gari Primary School, Sabon Garin Nangere.

“The lawmaker has facilitated the drilling of solar-powered boreholes in all the 21 electoral wards of Nangere and Potiskum constituency.

“He has also empowered 5,000 farmers, artisans and women with 100 bulls, 20 plough, 2,800 bags of fertiliser, 106 water pumping machines, 50 sets of sewing machines and 40 grinding machines, among others.”, Salisu added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the journalists, led by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Chairman in the state, Rajab Muhammad, were in the local government to inspect the projects.

In his remarks, Muhammad commended the lawmaker for bringing succour to the people of his constituency, urging other politicians and political office holders to emulate his gesture.

He added that the inspection visit was to encourage transparency, accountability and fulfillment of electioneering promises.
