All but 91 French soldiers out of the 1,500 previously based in Niger had left the country as of Tuesday, as part of the French disengagement process, the Nigerien army said.

“To date, there are only 91 French soldiers remaining, including 75 logisticians and a single logistics convoy awaiting departure,” the army said.

It said last week that “all French soldiers and their logistics will have definitively left Niger” by Dec. 22.

France had more than 1,500 soldiers in Niger, stationed in Ouallam, Ayorou and Niamey.

Departure operations for the first convoy of French soldiers began on Oct. 10, under escort of Nigerien forces.
