A non-governmental organisation, Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability Initiative, is to train 20 youth on accountability in the governance of local government.

The Organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Modu Mu’azu, disclosed this at press conference on Thursday in Damaturu.

He said that the training came when Civil Society Organisations and citizens often focus on accountability at the national level neglecting local government.

“The programme, tag ‘Local Government Accountability Fellowship’, would train 20 young people selected from a pool of over 500 applicants.

According to him ,the participant will receive training, mentorship, and leadership development to equip them with the skills on how monitor transparency and accountability from their local governments officials.

Mu’azu highlighted the importance of empowering young people to address critical issues at the local level especially local government joint accounts.

“The programme is to create a multi-dimensional approach to foster a strong working relationship between the young fellows, state governments, and local government bodies.
