Buni moves to boost gum arabic, sesame trade with Qatar

Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has reassured that the state is committed to boosting trade and investment with Qatar.

This is contained in a statement by Buni’s Director-General Press and Media Affairs Alhaji Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu on Friday.

The governor made the made this known when he met with Dr. Ali Alhajri, Qatar’s Ambassador to Nigeria, to deliberate on issues of mutual interest between the state and the gulf country.

“ Governor Buni informed the ambassador that Yobe state is a leading state in production of Sesame seeds, Gum Arabic and livestock.

“ According to the governor, Yobe state has large quantities of Sesame seeds, Gum Arabic and Livestock, suitable for international trade.

“The completion and commissioning of the international Cargo airport in Damaturu, will support international trade between Qatar and the North eastern states.

“Yobe state is a potential hub for international commodity trading between the North East sub region and foreign countries,” he said.

Buni called on the embassy to sensitise its business community on the potentials abound in the state.

“My administration is ready to explore and exploit more opportunities for partnership between Yobe state and the government of Qatar,” the governor said.

Buni commended the Qatari government for the support extended to the people of state to fast track recovery from its security challenges.

In his remarks, Alhajri said he would soon embark on tour of of the state to assess and explore economic potential for trade and investment.

The ambassador said Qatar was willing to look at areas of partnership with Yobe government to boost trade and improve its support to the state.

Alhajri commended Buni for the completion and commissioning of the Yobe International Cargo Airport, saying that it would boost trade and tourism for economic growth of the state.

The ambassador commended the government and people of Yobe for their resilience and commitment to the recovery process.
