Marie Stopes Nigeria, an NGO, has urged couples in Yobe, to embrace reproductive and modern contraceptive methods for effective family planning.

Mr Joseph Vandu, Social and Behavioral Change Communication Officer of the organisation, gave the advice in Damaturu on Saturday during the sensitisation exercise on women sexual reproductive health.

Vandu said that family planning allowed people to attain their desired number of children and determine child spacing.

He said the ability of women to choose if and when to become pregnant had a direct impact on their health and well-being.

According to him, the mission of the organisation was ‘to create a world where every birth is wanted and every woman can have children by choice not by chance.’

“We are collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health to provide high quality family planning services in hard-to-reach communities and urban areas.

“Additionally; we also provide training and resources to expand access to high quality sexual reproductive health,” he said.

The communication officer lauded Yobe government for creating enabling environment for partners to educate people on reproductive and modern contraceptive methods.

One of the participants, Pastor Adedayo David, commended the initiative, and called on his church members to utilise the information for their benefits
