The Yobe government on Friday says it would spend N8.9 billion on the construction Damaturu city gate and various roads under the 2023 budget.
Alhaji Muhammad Gagiyo, Commissioner, state Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, stated this while dissecting the budget at a press conference in Damaturu.
Our correspondent reports that Gov Mai Mala Buni had on Thursday presented a N163.2 billion 2023 budget to the state the House of Assembly.
He said N87.8 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure in the budget, while capital expenditure would gulp N75.4 billion, representing 46.2 percent.
Gagiyo said N8.5 billion would be expended on completion of Potiskum Trailer Park, Damaturu Mega Shopping Mall, Damaturu Industrial Park and completion of Potiskum and Geidam modern markets.
He said basic education would gulp N4.9 billion in the budget, with the proposed establishment of seven government girls’ secondary schools and procurement of school furniture across the state.
On agriculture, the commissioner said N4.6 billion was earmarked for completion of Gurjaje and Nasari modern grazing reserves as well as procurement of fertilizer and equipment for dry and rainy season farming.
Gagiyo said N3.5 billion would be expended on completion of Electricity Transmission Network Projects and connection of rural communities to the national grid.
He said within the fiscal year, N3.5 billion would be spent on the construction of radiography bunker and the expansion of a maternity complex at the state Teaching Hospital, Damaturu.
The commissioner summarised sectoral allocations as : economy N84.3 billion, Social service N53.3 billion, administration N22.03 billion, while law, peace and justice N3.6 billion.
Gagiyo listed sources of funding of the budget to include statutory allocation, N38.6 billion, other capital receipts, N73.4 billion, share of VAT, N25.8 billion and internally generated revenue, N12.3 billion.
He added that treasury opening balance stood at N8.5 billion, while ecological funds, excess crude, among others, would raise N4.7 billion.
