Poverty reduction drive, Buni lifts ban on motorbike transportation

Yobe government approves return on use of motorcycle.

With a view to tackle poverty through motorcycle system of personal transportation, Yobe state governor has approved the return to the use of motorcycle in seven local government areas of the state with some stated rules and regulations.

This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists by .Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Retired), Special Adviser on Security Affairs to the Executive Governor.

The ban which is lifted with effect from 6th March 2023 in the seven local government areas of Zone A, covers Bursari, Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Tarmuwa and Yunusari.

The press statement shows that motorcycles are to operate between 6am and 6pm daily but would not to be used for commercial purposes commonly known‘ Achaba thus limiting the use only the rider without any other person on the motorbike.

The rules also stressed the need to ensure proper registration, licensing, and documentation of all motorbikes and riders in the affected LGAs by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority.

Other regulations restricts motorcycles from operating outside the designated local government areas of registration and sanction would be applied to any found conveying passengers

The regulations also prohibits inter-local government area movement with motorbikes a violation that would attract appropriate sanction.

To ensure compliance with these stipulated rules, all security agencies in the state are therefore requested to monitor and ensure strict compliance with these directives.
