Damaturu Residents to Get Relief as Governor Buni Orders Diesel for Boreholes

Damaturu residents facing acute water scarcity are set to see some relief. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State directed the immediate distribution of diesel to power all public boreholes in the capital city and surrounding areas.

This directive follows a press statement issued on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali. The statement assures residents that “there is enough diesel for distribution to enable the powering of all boreholes in the affected areas.”

The water scarcity arose due to the destruction of a critical 330kv electricity line by unknown vandals. This left many boreholes reliant on generators unable to function, significantly impacting access to clean water for residents.
