NGO partners NDLEA to fight drugs abuse in Yobe

The Youth Awareness Council (YAC), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has expressed intention to partner with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Yobe Command, in tackling the worrisome issue of drug abuse among youths in the state.

The Director General of the Organisation, Mr Saidu Hassan Jakusko, this said when he paid a courtesy visit to the NDLEA’s boss, Mr Abbas Potiskum, a Deputy Commandant, on Monday in Damaturu.

Jakusko said the NGO’s desired collaboration with the NDLEA, was to increase the level of awareness about the dangers of drug abuse among young people in the state.

“Drug abuse has become a major problem contributing to other crimes involving our youths in the state,” Jakusko said.

In his address, Potiskum, applauded the call for a partnership initiative, describing it as “first-of-its-kind” in the state.

He pledged the agency’s support for the planned sensitisation of youths on the dangers of drug abuse and other related social vices.

He also commended Gov. Mala Buni-led administration for providing NDLEA with a suitable office accommodation and conducive environment that had brought about smooth and effective operations of the agency in the state.
