His Royal Highness, the Emir of Fika, Alhaji Dr Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrisa, has warned that he will never allow anyone to create chaos among his people.

He issued the warning following a threat by the United Marketers Association Potiskum (UMAPO) to hold a peaceful protest in the area.

The protest is said to be against “recent actions of Potiskum Local Government Council revoking places of their routine businesses,” as revealed by Nasiru Alhaji Mato, chairman of the association.

“We are strongly opposed to this dictatorial decision,” Mato said. “We condemn this unacceptable and selfish decision. We have collectively resolved to close down all markets within Potiskum town on Wednesday, 3rd January 2024.

All entries into the market stalls will be shut down to show our anger. We must rise up to protect the interests of our people. They voted for us to stand by them in whatever circumstances.”

Those affected members, he said, have been occupying the market stalls for over 50 years but were asked to vacate the place simply because the Local Government Council intends to dispose of it.

However, the Emir, who is also the Chairman of the Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, is advising the public to remain calm, assuring them that “we are on top of the situation as we care about the plight of our people.”

This is according to a press release from Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, the Special Adviser Media to the Emir, made available to our correspondent in Damaturu.

“The Emir is currently in touch with the State Government on the matter, and it will be resolved amicably,” the statement added.

“The Emir will never allow anyone to create chaos among his people. Therefore, we are advising the public to remain calm. We are on top of the situation and care about the plight of our people.”
