All set for Gov. Buni’s football cup competition

Preparation is in top gear for Governor Buni’s football cup competition to be hosted in 5 different stadiums in the state with participants from each of the 17 local government areas of the state.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Youth, Sports, Social and Community Development, Hon. Barma Shettima who disclosed this to journalists stated that the event is being organized by his ministry in collaboration with Yobe State Sports Council.

He said the aim of the tournament is to discover youth talents, promote of peace, unity, social cohesion as well as economic growth of the state through sports.

He pointed out that the games will be played at 5 stadia across the state which include; August 27 Stadium Damaturu, Dabo Aliyu Stadium Potiskum, Gashua Township Stadium, Kawumi Stadium Geidam and Nguru Township Stadium.

He further stated that the last round of the competition will be played in Damaturu, the state capital.

According to him, prices would be given to the first, second and third positions with the sum of N1, 500, 000 for the first position.

Winners of the second and third positions would receive the sum of N1 million and N500, 000 respectively.

He therefore called on the both Zonal and Local Government Areas Sport Officers to guide the players to abide by the rules and regulations of the game so as to have a hitch free competition.

The executive director of Yobe State Sports Council, Dr. Abdulrahman Ago, disclosed that the final stage of the Governor’s Cup will be played in a synthetic stadium newly constructed by the state government.

He commended the Governor Mai Mala Buni for approving the ongoing construction of the August 27 Stadium, pointing out that the governor will grace the kick off ceremony of the competition.

Meanwhile, players’ licenses, jerseys, balls, kits and other related materials were already shared to the various Local Government Areas.
