Yobe govt, SCI inaugurate child protection committee

Damaturu, Aug 16, 2023 (NAN) Yobe Government and Save the Children International (SCI) has inaugurated the State Child Protection Implementation Committee.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the activities of the committee are being funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Secretary to Yobe Government, Alhaji Baba Malam-Wali inaugurated the 24-member committee in Damaturu on Wednesday.

Malam-Wali, represented by Mohammed Lawan, the Director Administration, said the gesture was part of the government’s commitments of adhering to the legal framework for the protection of children in the state.

Dr Alkali Umar, the resource person, who facilitated the session emphasised the importance of the protection of children.

Umar said children needed a protective and nurturing environment to survive, develop and thrive.

He said that SCI had been working towards achieving such goal in all the states they operate.

Mr Wakil Mustapha, the Secretary, Justice Sector Reform Team, lauded the Justice Reform Technical Committee, SCI, religious leaders and other stakeholders for the their efforts.

Mustapha extolled the invaluable roles they played in ensuring the passage of the bill into law.
