Alhaji Usman Baba Alkali, the former Inspector General of Police, has donated a Juma’at mosque he constructed to the people of G.R.A Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital.

The former I.G.P Alkali said the gesture was in line with the teaching of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that says “whoever builds a masjid, Allah will reward him with a house in the paradise.”

He said the mosque would provide Muslims with an opportunity to come and worship Allah (SWA) conveniently and in an atmosphere of comfort and serenity.

The Ex police chief said lots of other religious activities such as marriage, preparations for burial among others could also take place.

“The mosque is not only for prayer, it is going to encompass teaching and learning of the religion of Islam,” Alkali said.

He added that a committee was created to take care of the mosque in terms of maintaining the structure and the welfare of the imam, malams and other people looking after the mosque.

“For this reason, we have created an endowment for people to contribute.”

He also said an islamic school would be constructed at the nearby extension.

The donation of the mosque is a commendable act of generosity by Alkali. The mosque will provide a much-needed place of worship for the Muslim community in Damaturu. The mosque will also serve as a center for Islamic education and community activities.
